A prominent and protruded cheekbone (zygoma) makes the middle part of the face appears big, round, and wide. Zygoma reduction is a surgery performed to reduce the cheekbone’s width and height to make the face looks slimmer and more feminine.
Preparation
Surgery
Duration: 2-3 hours
Anaesthesia: General anaesthesia
Hospitalization: At least one night stay
Recovery*: Back to work 1 to 2 weeks, light exercise after 2 weeks, heavy exercise after one month* The actual speed of recovery may vary from person to person.
Surgery Technique:An incision is made inside the mouth to expose the zygoma bone. An L-shaped osteotomy is done on the cheekbone and the root of the zygomatic arch is fractured through an incision in the sideburn. The prominent part of the cheekbone is removed. The remaining cheekbone is repositioned and fixed with screws or mini-plates.
