TATTOO REMOVAL

TATTOO REMOVAL

Overview
alt
The most effect way for tattoo removal is to use a laser that can break down the ink in the tattoo. The broken-down ink is that absorbed and removed by the body. Black, blue and darker-colored tattoos are more easily to be removed completely. On the other hand, yellow and greens tattoos are more challenging to treat because they have absorption spectra that fall outside of the emission spectra available in the most of the common tattoo removal lasers.

Q-switched lasers are considered the gold standard in tattoo removal. However laser removal typically requires repeated sessions of therapy and the patients need to be patient.

Procedure
alt
Laser System: Q-Switched Nd-YAG Laser
Duration of each session: 50-60minutes (including waiting time for numbing cream to act)
Anaesthesia: Numbing cream (waiting time 40 minutes), local cooling
Total sessions required: Highly variable. Depends on the skin type, location of tattoo, colour of tattoo, amount of ink, presence of scarring or tissue change, and layering. Generally an average of 6 to 10 sessions are required foe complete removal (for black and dark-coloured tattoos)
Interval between sessions: 1-2 months

Recovery
alt
• “Frosting” which is a slightly elevated whitish discoloration with or without punctate bleeding is often seen. This will resolve gradually
• Minimal swelling and redness will resolve in one to two days
• A crust may form on the treated area and slough off in one to two weeks
• Sun protection is required during and after the treatment course
• Skincare products/ topical agents to promote healing and for soothing.
